In lieu of the premier of my friend, Danny Trejo's first lead role in "Machete", I present a sonnet written during his hay day of character acting. It honors the terrifying Mexican thespian that we all know and love.

Welter weight champ of San Quentin

L.A. born, unmistakable flair

Fu Manchu, leather tattoo skin

you scared us with knives in Desperado

Tarantino loves you and how could he not

Rodriguez también, mucho latino bravado!

your face haunts our dreams but your name we forgot

never lead role but that does not matter

so many films and television too

either looking real angry or making heads splatter

maybe next time you'll star with a lady to woo

a childhood of drugs couldn't hold you down

in the ranks of character actors, you hold the crown
