The New Deal
Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 05:52PM I met Franklin Deleanor Proosefelt in a check-out line of a used bookstore in Chicago, Illinois. I had just purchased the book "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers. To my surprise, Mr. Proosefelt had brought that very book to the store a week earlier. After leaving, we took a walk down the streets of the Windy City and he told me about his exploits in the world of poetry. Later on that week, I opened up my recently purchased book and found a quote scribbled in pencil on the inside of the front cover that said "Frequently the more trifling the subject, the more animated and protracted the discussion." This is a quote by Franklin Pierce, who happens to be Mr. Proosefelt's great-great-great grandfather.
Societies Priorities
When society thinks of success
The majority neglect happiness
These shallow people all worried of money
Instead of relaxing with a buddy
Don’t let the TV get to me
Let my own thoughts thrive
Before they’re called up and said to be
With addictions, supposedly alive
I know they're my friends
But some look to get a head
Pushing other feelings aside
Using selfishness as their drive
It should not be about you, me, in this society
Collectively, we, should be valued as our propriety
Odds
You Help
You Hinder
You make me see near
That which proposed is visibly clear
You make me see far
The silhouettes of dreams below our star
Physically, emotionally, you make my body ache
Countless times I’ve made this mistake
Withdrawal, isolation, will rid you of the fear
Time to relax and confide with your peers
You choose to ignore or identify with their illustrations
Ultimately, your decision creates the situation
Do you heed the advice?
Or lose again, rolling the dice
