Perfectly Flawless

I was fighting a healthy dose of cabin fever on the Appalachian trail after breaking my foot while hiking. For the time being, I was cooped up at a rented villa until it healed. It only took a few days for me to start feeling restless and needed to find a way to occupy my time. I grabbed my crutches and hobbled down to the hiking trail a few yards away. I sat there while people making the trek through the mountain range passed by. It turns out people-watching is an interesting way to spend time when there isn't much else to do. The entertainment lasted for a couple of hours and I was getting ready to make my way back to the cabin when I noticed a younger girl walking down the path towards me. She was carrying a guitar and playing while she walked. I listened as the notes and chords reverberated around the trees and throughout the open air. As she walked, the sticks and leaves that crumbled underneath her boots made offbeat percussion for the acoustic song she was playing. It was simply beautiful.

Music recorded in a studio is always stellar in quality, but lacks the noise that comes with life. Filmmakers Chryde, and Vincent Moon from the French website La BlogoTheque  sought out to capture music in its rawest form without soundproofed rooms and producers editing to perfection. Once a week they film musicians playing impromptu performances in the middle of boulevards, restaurants, and other public places. The spontaneous events that occur from passersby, and background noise from the world around them enhance the beauty of the final product. Mr. Moon and Chryde call the unedited performances Take Away Shows.

Legend has it Robert Johnson was filmed singing "Traveling Riverside Blues" outside of a bar in Hazlehurst, Missisippi. Locals in that town will tell you that upon watching the recording, the viewer will lose their soul to the devil.
