If 2012 were to have a nickname, it would be “The Year of the Memes.” They are on every Facebook wall, every nook and cranny of Google searches, and litter the attics of every Internet forum. I must say, I find a lot of them amusing, but one in particular jilted me something rotten. The meme was simply a sample of Led Zepplin’s lyrics on top of a sample of Nicki Minaj’s. Zepplin’s lyrics were beautifully put as Minaj’s was just a constant repeating of “you a stupid hoe.” Moral of the image’s story was that music today has lost its luster compared to the melodies of yesteryear. I resent the message of that image and Jeremiah Higgins has something to do with that.

Sure, there are currently songs polluting our eardrums that bombard the radio, but behind the surface of everything popular, there is music being recorded every day that can blow apart any stigma one might have. Mr. Higgins disproves the hypothesis of the meme with every stroke on his guitar. His elegant melodies along with a voice that would not only keep someone company as they are driving but could also soothe an infant to sleep make me proud that I live in a time that people are still passing along the torch of quality music.

Prove the memes wrong.
