Taken By Trees

Have you ever had the urge to just whole up somewhere off the beaten path and create something? Shun the conveniences and constant connectivity of the modern world and find inspiration in something new? This is exactly what Taken By Tree’s did for their sophomore album “East of Eden” when the Swedish born lead singer took her talents to none other than Pakistan.

The group recruited a cast of local musicians in collaboration with music legend, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, to create a unique album with Sufi influences to include their own take on Animal Collective’s hit, “My Girls”.

Okay, so maybe Pakistan isn’t the best place for you to shack up, recruit some locals, and come up with something for you to spend your time creating, but how about Hawaii? Drawing on the other worldly beauty of the Hawaiian Islands for the upcoming album, “Other Worlds”, the album's dub ventures are , “gently layered with synths and Victoria's voice, floating along with the bass line. The music reflects the natural beauty of the Hawaiian islands -- floating in a perfectly blue pond, a kind breeze coasting off the waves, abundant deep green foliage, sweet slices of pineapple and milky coconut, the delicate pink of a seashell curled like a baby's ear. Sandy toes, hidden waterfalls, the dreams you have after a long day at the beach.”

So as the weather gets colder and the leaves turn to a different shade, I encourage you to pick up “Other Worlds.” Turn it up, tune it out, and find some creative inspiration or maybe just the soundtrack for your own mental escape.

Other Worlds due out on October 2nd, 2012

Succomb to foliage.
